As Mais Belas Histórias
& Contos de Fadas (2019)
As Mais Belas Histórias & Contos de Fada (The Most Beautiful Stories & Fairy Tales) was a year-end show for dance instructor Gisele Albano's students. Albano works from three different dance schools, Conservatório Musical Jardim América, Cia Terra and Instituto Cuida de Mim.
Her student exhibits don't have a set or an MC, the performance is an open stage for her students
to perform, instead they rely heavily on graphic design and screen projections to set the tone, engage the audience and establish the pace. The show begins with an introductory video presenting the students and crew, followed by the making of rehearsal videos, next the dance numbers start proceeded by a short introduction of the choreography's theme. The shows run around two hours. The theme for the 2019 show was literary classics and fairy tales and consisted
of sixteen student  numbers, each inspired by a different story.
The required deliverables were a poster, social media advertisement, t-shirt design for students and crew, videos for screen projections, and a DVD case.

Poster

My idea for this show was an old-fashioned book to convey the "tale as old as time" theme. The color purple was chosen because it represents spirituality and magic, as fairies, witches and mythological creatures are a constant theme in these stories. The gothic/blackletter typeface PlainBlack was used (in titles and large text) to match the vintage style of the book, while the slab serif font Chaparral was used because it pairs well with gothic type and improves legibility.

The videos introduce the show, the performers and crew, and each of the dance presentations. Each dance presentation is inspired by a different story which I created short videos (maximum of 1:30 minutes) introducing them by showing different versions produced for different media formats (film, TV, theater, dance, etc.). In total there were sixteen stories, plus the opening and closing videos and the making of the class rehearsal videos, making a total of nineteen videos. Below are six of them.

All the print material was done using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. All videos and audio were edited and animated using Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro.
